Helping Heal
Those Who Serve
Our Mission
Our mission at Oak Heart Lodge is to provide a place of healing, comfort, and camaraderie for disabled veterans and to thank them for their sacrifice. Oak Heart's meaning derives from "The Heart of an Oak" definition: A loyal and courageous soldier, brave and valorous. Whether it’s fly fishing, tying flies, or quiet reflection while watching the river go by, we aim to ensure our veterans know they are not forgotten.
Activities
Our activities include but are not limited to fly fishing, tying flies and practice casting both on and off the water. Our guests can also explore the 10-acre property, wade fish, relax in the main lodge or recreation room, sit on the riverside deck or enjoy our “24 hour bonfire”.
Participate
Are you a disabled veteran looking to join us at our lodge? We partner with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) and their thousands of disabled veteran members and volunteers. To visit our lodge, you must be an active member of PHWFF. Visit PHWFF to locate a program near you. We would be honored to host you in the future.
The Lodge
Oak Heart Lodge in Newaygo, Michigan, is placed on the banks of the Muskegon River on a 10-acre piece of rolling land with majestic maple and pine trees surrounding it. Boasting over 400 ft of river frontage and a year-round fishery, you’ll have access to one of the best trout, bass, king salmon, and steelhead-producing rivers in the state. In addition to the Muskegon River, our guests will have access to other local rivers, including the Blue Ribbon designated Pere Marquette river, just a short 45-minute drive from the lodge.
